Continued militancy and conflicts in Afghanistan have claimed 50 lives, with majority of them anti- government insurgents, since late Sunday, officials confirmed.
In the latest wave of violent incidents, four civilians, including a child, lost their lives in Laghman province, 90 km east of Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday.
"The tragic incident happened at 10:00 a.m. local time (0530 GMT) today in Ali Negar district, leaving four innocent civilians, including a child, dead and two others injured," spokesman for provincial administration Faizanullah Patan told Xinhua.
He also blamed Taliban militants for organizing the attack but the outfit fighting Afghan government has yet to make comment.
Earlier Interior Ministry had released a statement which said 25 insurgents were killed over the past two days.
"Afghan police backed by national army and NATO-led forces during joint operations in Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Paktia province have killed 25 rebels over the past 24 hours," the statement released here Tuesday asserted.
Without mentioning the possible security forces' casualties during the operations, the Interior Ministry in the statement stressed that three more militants were arrested and three others sustained injuries.
According to governor of eastern Nuristan province Tamim Nuristan, 18 more Taliban insurgents had been killed during operations in the mountainous province on Sunday and Monday.
A Taliban local commander, Mullah Wakil, was also killed in Ghazn province on Sunday, according to officials.
Continued insurgency has also left two service members of the NATO-led troops in Afghanistan dead since weekend.
"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died following an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan yesterday," the militancy alliance confirmed in a statement released Tuesday morning.
The second service man lost his life in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack also in southern part of the country, the statement further said.
