Two British soldiers from 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards were killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan, the British Ministry of Defence said on Thursday.
Both soldiers were on a patrol in the Yakchal region of Nahr-e Saraj in central Helmand when their armoured vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED).
"It is with great sadness that I must confirm the deaths of two soldiers from 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards after their vehicle was hit by an IED. Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of both these brave soldiers at this very difficult time," said spokesman for Task Force Helmand Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie.
The soldiers' families have asked for a 24 hour period of grace before further details are released.
Another British soldier from the 2nd Battalion The Rifles died from an explosion also in Nahr-e Saraj on Wednesday.
The death toll of British forces in Afghanistan has risen to 388 since 2001.
