Turkey mulls gas exploration deal with Shell

Turkey mulls gas exploration deal with Shell
The Turkish Petroleum Corporation ( TPAO) will talk with British oil giant Shell over possible cooperation in exploration of oil and natural gas next week, Turkish semi-official Anatolia news agency quoted Energy Minister Taner Yildiz as saying on Wednesday.

If the deal can be reached with Shell, it would pave the way for exploration of oil and natural gas both on Turkish land and seas, said Taner Yildiz to reporters after a closed door meeting with Thomas Mirow, president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), in Ankara.

The minister said he and Mirow "talked about investments on renewable energy and structures that need financing in the energy sector."

Mirow said "Turkey has become the second country where the IBRD is most active" in the past three years, adding that IBRD's main focus in Turkey will be on renewable energy.
