Georgia pardons 137 prisoners on St. George Day
President Mikheil Saakashvili on Wednesday pardoned 137 prisoners in keeping with a St. George Day tradition in Georgia.
The prisoners were selected by a state commission that then presented a list to the president for pardon recommendations.
Saakashvili gave full pardons to 111 of the 137 prisoners recommended for clemency. Six of the prisoners will serve half of their sentences thanks to the pardon.
The president annually pardons prisoners on the Nov. 23 holiday celebrated in the South Caucasus country.
