British soldier killed in Afghan explosion
A British soldier was killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, the British Ministry of Defence announced.
Serving as a part of Combined Force Nahr-e Saraj (South), the soldier was a member of an International Security Assistance Force foot patrol to disrupt insurgent activities.
The serviceman, from 5th Battalion The Rifles, was on a patrol in the Babaji area of Helmand province's Nahr-e Saraj district when he was caught in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very difficult time," said Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie, spokesman for Task Force Helmand.
The death toll of British troops in Afghanistan in November has reached 7, the same as in February, which was the highest this year.
So far, 390 British soldiers have been killed since Afghanistan operations began in 2001.
