Al-Qaida facilitator killed in Afghanistan: ISAF
A joint Afghan and NATO-led Coalition forces in an operation killed an al-Qaida facilitator in the country's Wardak province, the military alliance said on Saturday.
"A combined Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of an al-Qaida network facilitator in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, yesterday," NATO-led ISAF said in a statement.
"The facilitator trained insurgents and worked as a courier. He delivered messages and transported money for the al-Qaida network, " the statement added.
A shooter engaged the security force with small arms fire from a building inside of the compound during the operation. "Assessing an immediate threat, the security force returned fire, killing the facilitator," the statement said.
The security force detained two suspected insurgents and destroyed multiple weapons.
No civilians were injured during the operation, it further said.
Separately, a Haqqani network leader was captured by joint forces during another operation in Bak district of eastern Khost province on Friday, according to the statement.
A Taliban and al-Qaida affiliated group of militants, the Haqqani network, which mostly operates in eastern Afghan provinces and capital Kabul, has been responsible for many high-profile attacks against security forces.
